Signature Earl Grey by Twinings
I am not a tea connoisseur, though I am fast becoming one. Like so many things of a culinary nature, it is only when you taste the best of a certain produce that you realise how deprived you have been. And so it was on a brisk Saturday afternoon when I sampled a full Afternoon Tea experience at The Criterion, that I first laid my eyes, nose and palate upon Twinings ‘Signature Earl Grey’ from their Exquisite Loose Tea selection.
This tea was a revelation. Light and delicate yet packed with flavour, it somehow tasted glamorous and sophisticated, as if I were drinking a cup of gold leaf, silk and diamonds. The addition of lavender flowers to the bergamot oil and Keemun tea brought something extra to what was already my favourite brew. While this recipe is not exclusive to Twinings, their concoction was otherworldly. Priced at £7.50 for 75g, this costly offering is well worth the outlay if you are looking for something special. Bear in mind though, after drinking this, you may never be able to drink another cup of ‘normal’ tea again.
If I may, I would like to leave you with a poem by Gladstone that I found printed on the box of my latest purchase of Earl Grey:
If you are cold,
Tea will warm you.
If you are too heated,
It will cool you.
If you are depressed,
It will cheer you.
If you are excited,
It will calm you.
Twining’s Signature Earl Grey loose tea is available to purchase online direct from Twinings.
