A Pinch of Spice

February 3, 2010 10:51 am Article by Harry Lytton

Borough Market, one of London’s oldest and most prestigious food markets, sees the introduction of a new stall from Asian chef and cookery school owner, Angela Malik, featuring an appetising selection of sauces, spice mixes and chutneys.

Angela MalikCustomers will now be able to take advantage of the quality vegetables, meat and fish at Borough Market with the addition of Angela Malik’s products, including a selection of Eastern inspired produce from tasty pesto, tamarind and jaggery chutney to her own garam masala mix. She bases her creations around five distinct tastes – hot, sweet, salty, sour and umami, and proclaims that elements of each of these is what makes a balanced meal.

Angela’s Acton-based cookery school teaches students how to expand their culinary skills and try the unexplored, such as demystifying Thai food, and mastering Dim Sum. Angela, having studied at the Leith’s School of Cookery, has a passion for cooking and believes that it shouldn’t be complicated or overdone. Her concept is based on the amalgamation of Eastern flavours and British food and her decision to bottle her idea and sell it – both at the cookery school and now at Borough Market – has proven to be a great success.

To find out more about Angela and her food philosophy, visit her at Borough Market or view her website to learn more about the cookery classes on offer: www.angelamalik.co.uk
