This week sees the launch of ES Illustration, Eyestorm gallery’s sister site that specialises in limited edition drawing and illustrative work. In recent years, drawing and illustration has become more popular as a collectable form of art. Sitting between design and fine art practice, illustration is usually associated with advertising or editorial and rarely given the credit it deserves. The medium is now becoming widely recognised in the form of both original works on paper and limited edition prints.
ES Illustration launches with 18 illustrators from all over the globe that have been carefully selected to showcase their work as limited edition prints or original drawings. Featured artists include Nick Sheehy who explores the fictional characters that kept him company during his childhood, and Christina Christoforou whose work fuses an element of play into her narratives to disguise a darker, more serious edge.
Toby Neilan’s architectural forms combine a strong sense of colour with expressive mark making, and Delphine Lebourgeois’ portraits of imaginary women warriors are falsely serene, resonating in a world of romantic visions, humour and irony. Other illustrators include Anna Kyriacou with her naïve and seductive drawings of childhood journeys, and renowned ‘iconographer’ Peter Grundy with his bold, graphic style imagery.
