Soho, once a den of iniquity, squalor and degradation (very much like the Arbuturian HQ on a Friday afternoon) has seen in recent years its fortunes change and is now a centre of food excellence, cocktail perfection and finely cut fashion. A reflection of this newfound class is the forthcoming Soho Food Feast, organised by Margot Henderson of Rochelle Canteen fame to raise funds for the Soho Parish School which Margot describes as “a place that I hold dear to my heart. My children have had a great education there, made strong friendships that they still have now. The school is an oasis in the middle of a crazy bustling area and offers support to a wide mix of people in the community.”
The school is in desperate need of funding and support, and the Soho Food Feast will raise awareness of the school, what it achieves and how it gives a blisteringly good education to the variety of children in the parish.
Celebrate the unique and vibrant atmosphere of Soho, and meet some of the area’s brilliant chefs and restaurateurs who will be serving their signature dishes and house wines from stands throughout the garden. The extensive patron list includes Arbutus, Barrafina, Dean St Townhouse, Hix, St John Hotel, Terroirs, The Groucho, The Ivy and Valentine Warner, so you can be certain it will be an afternoon to remember. The day will include food demonstrations and tastings, wine tasting with Trevor Gulliver of HG Wine, a cake baking competition open to all (stand back, Jonesy has his apron on), children’s activities including food art, fun and games. There will be a raffle with fantastic prizes including restaurant meals, theatre tickets, X Factor tickets, beauty treatments and haircuts. Cabaret, will at some point, ensue.
The Arbuturian will be in attendance ensuring the highest standards are met and that wine is drunk in appropriate quantities. Join us for a selection of fine foods from some of the UK’s best kitchens, jovial chat and the added bonus of doing something for a wonderful school.
The Soho Food Feast will be held at St. Anne’s Church Garden, Wardour Street, Soho, London, W1D 6AF, Saturday 25th June 2011, 1pm till 6pm. Tickets are available online for £6.50 or at the Soho Parish School for £4. Children under 12 go free. More information at their website.
