The World’s Best Restaurants

0

The 2009 San Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurants awards have been announced, with Ferran Adria’s El Bulli once again occupying the top position, and our very own Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck in Bray coming in second for the fourth year running. Other notable UK restaurants included St. John in 14th place, Nobu at 34 and Hakkasan dropping to 36th. Outside the top 50 were Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley coming in at 52, Claude Bosi’s wonderful restaurant Hibiscus at 56, our much loved Le Gavroche at 58, The River Cafe down at 71, Jason Atherton’s Maze at 91 and Zuma at 92, and shock of all shocks, poor old Gordon Ramsay’s flagship restaurant on Royal Hospital Road – currently the only 3 star Michelin venue in London – didn’t even get into the top 100. But then again, neither did Guy Savoy, who, in my opinion, runs a far superior restaurant to a number of qualifiers on the list. With so many great restaurants around, it’s just not possible to squeeze every gem into a top 50 or even a top 100 – and that should be seen as a good thing.
