National Burger Day

0

National Burger Day is upon us. Who knew? Among the many daily celebrations – are there enough days of the year, in fact? – for everything from Roald Dahl (13th September) to hair bows (International Bow Day was last week), it’s the foodie ones that probably tickle us the most here at the Arb. (Do we have National Whisky Day? We should*).

Here, then, just in case you were planning a city-wide tour for breakfast, lunch, tea, supper, dinner, dessert and an alternative to the kebab on the way home from the Thursday night out before the Bank Holiday, here is our round up of the best London has to offer.

The Indulgent Burger: New Black Boar Burger at The Chop House

The Chop House restaurants have unveiled their latest drool-worthy creation, just in time for National Burger Day: The Black Boar Burger is stuffed with both shoulder and belly of wild boar, then topped with crispy, dry-cured streaky bacon and coleslaw. This hunger-slaying mix is sandwiched inside a charcoal bun, slathered with pineapple and chilli piccalilli and served with mixed-root crisps, all for £17.50. www.chophouserestaurants.co.uk

The Vegan Option: The Vurger Co.

The Vurger Co is a 100% plant based burger company looking to revolutionise fast food through the power of plants.  They will be celebrating National Burger Day with with their Vanilla Black Vurger. A collaboration with Chef Andrew Dargue, this burger is a play on the nation’s favourite dish; a Tikka Masala curry patty is topped with candied chilli and mint yoghurt. The Vurger Co will be serving up this delight at the Pillbox Kitchen for one day only on National Burger Day alongside a one off to die for completely plant-based cheesecake! www.thevurgerco.com

The Classic: Tommi’s Burger

Tommi’s is a no frills burger joint originating from Iceland, serving a concise menu of burgers including chicken and vegetarian, as well as the classic steak burger. Find them on the Kings Road, Thayer Street and in Soho. www.burgerjoint.co.uk

The Bespoke Burger: Design your own burger at Skylon

The choices to build on top of the classic Skylon burger (already filled with mature cheddar, lettuce, pickle, tomato relish, red onion and garlic aioli) include avocado, smoked streaky bacon, wild mushrooms or a fried hens egg – meaning each burger can be bespoke. And, for the hungry, it can be made into a double. For £14 plus £2.50 for extras, this burger is available on both the à la carte and brunch menus at Skylon on the Southbank. www.skylon-restaurant.co.uk

The Healthy Option: The Mindful Burger

To celebrate National Burger Day, Mindful Chef, the healthy recipe box delivery service, has teamed with likeminded Hally’s, a Californian-inspired restaurant located in Parsons Green, to create “The Mindful Burger”.

Says Miles Hopper, co-founder of Mindful Chef, “The Mindful Burger is packed full of health-boosting ingredients such as immune system and digestion aiding rich fermented miso paste, fibre filled Portobello mushrooms, also packed with B vitamins, and sweet potato crisps for your hit of beta-carotene. All essential for a healthy immune system!” Who says burgers are unhealthy.

The Guilty Pleasure: Dirty Bones’ Mac Daddy Burger

For the ultimate American cheeseburger with a twist Dirty Bones offer The Mac Daddy. A brisket and dry-aged steak burger is topped with succulent pulled beef short rib then adorned with mac & cheese and their signature cayenne and coffee-spiked BBQ sauce. This is no ordinary cheeseburger. It can only be found at Dirty Bones, for just £11. www.dirty-bones.com

The Dessert Burger: Jude’s Black Coconut Ice Cream Burger

And to top it all off, the lovely Jude’s ice cream have even made the humble burger a dessert. Theirs is made using the latest flavour to join the Jude’s family, Instagram sensation Black Coconut, sandwiched between a toasted, black brioche bun. The burger will be finished with freshly sliced mango, a lime juice glaze and coconut curls.

The Jude’s Black Coconut Burger will be available at The Jude’s Ice Cream Parlour at the Pear Tree Café in Battersea Park from Thursday 24th August until Monday 29th August, priced at £6.
