A Suit of Two Halves

Q: When is a suit not a suit? A: When it’s a separate. The growing trend for breaking up jackets and trousers and wearing them independently makes perfect sense to me. It’s a way to “casual-ize” a working wardrobe while retaining an air of formality; it offers a myriad of style choices in place of one; and it provides plenty of opportunities to play with colour, fit, proportion and a formal/casual mix – pairing a windowpanel-check jacket with jeans, for instance, or teaming knitwear with pinstripe trousers and trainers, or even, for the DB-curious, committing to a jacket before going the whole hog. The recent shoot we did for the TE webshop offers plenty of pointers on mixing it up, and who knows – after a few creative combos, you may declare yourself a die-hard separatist.
