So we all know that Donatella Versace previously rubbished ideas that she would release a diffusion line with H&M, and then came the news earlier this year that she was releasing a diffusion line with H&M. Donatella then promised the diffusion line would reflect ‘iconic Versace’, embodying the brand’s illustrious heritage and design aesthetic; meaning pieces influenced by the Italian label’s archive of flamboyant prints and colour. Now we finally get our first look at the designs for H&M, which is definitely a high street chain gaining momentum with its designer collaborations, some of which have previously included Lanvin, Lagerfeld, Comme des Garcons, Jimmy Choo and Sonia Rykiel.
The ‘Iconic Collection’ will include womenswear, menswear and homeware designs and the campaign ‘so far’ stars Sasha Pivovarova, Daphne Groeneveld and Lindsey Wixson in some full-on signature Versace; studded leather jackets, metallic embellished mini skirts, vibrant prints on silk and costume jewellery. Expect some bling for the boys too as well as sharp tailoring including ‘the perfect tuxedo’ and belts. Homeware pieces will include the chance to make your 3-bed semi in Croydon look like a Miami mansion, well, your bedroom anyway, with pillows and bedspreads also following Versace’s trademark bold and colourful prints. You’ll just need to check if Ikea do a range of gilt-bronze-mounted mahogany bed frames to compliment your new duvet set.
The collection will launch in UK H&M stores on November 17th, with a pre-Spring line set to launch on January 19, 2012. Expect to queue outside stores for ages only to find that the things you wanted to buy sold out in minutes. Therefore, I officially declare there’s only one thing for it: pushing, shoving, hair-pulling and full-on fighting to get to the front of the queue. I will have those studded leather jackets and rock-chick mini skirts before you!
