Diplomático After Dark: The Nightcap, Reimagined

0

There comes a point in any good evening out when you’re faced with a choice: be sensible and go home…or order “just one more” and see where things lead.

At The Beaumont Mayfair, they’ve made that decision disarmingly easy.

Because at the hotel’s low-lit, seductive Le Magritte Bar at The Beaumont, “just one more” now arrives via a roaming cocktail trolley, wheeled directly to your table as part of Diplomático After Dark — a limited-run collaboration with Diplomático Rum that turns the humble nightcap into something altogether more indulgent.

Forget queuing at the bar. Forget shouting over a shaker. Not that you’d ever have to at Le Magritte, mind. But here, a dedicated butler appears, sets up shop beside you, and proceeds to mix your drink with just enough theatre to make you feel like you’ve made an excellent life decision.

And, crucially — the drinks are very, very good.

The Rum Behind the Curtain

Diplomático isn’t just another name on the back bar. Since its launch in 1989, the Venezuelan producer has built a reputation for richly layered, meticulously blended rums — the sort that bartenders reach for secretively when asked, ‘What would you suggest?’.

At the heart of it all is the Maestro Ronero — literally “Master of Rum” — a title that sounds romantic (it is), but is earned through decades of technical expertise and sensory obsession. Diplomático’s own, Nelson Hernández Mugica, has spent nearly forty years honing the craft, overseeing everything from distillation to ageing to the final blend.

Think of him as equal parts engineer, alchemist and custodian of flavour — ensuring every pour carries that signature Diplomático depth: warm, spiced, and just a little bit decadent.

It’s exactly the sort of spirit that makes sense at The Beaumont — a place that understands luxury doesn’t need to shout to be noticed.

Four Very Good Reasons to Stay Out Late

The menu, created by Assistant Bar Manager Giovanni Dellaglio, is short, sharp and purpose-built for late-night temptation.

The eponymous Diplomático After Dark is the one to order when you want something brooding and grown-up — Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva stirred with Green Chartreuse, Amaro Averna and Antica Formula, lifted by chocolate bitters and orange zest. It’s rich, bittersweet, and thoroughly evening-appropriate.

Golden Mirage goes the other way — all silky edges and soft indulgence, pairing the rum with Amaretto and Coffee liqueur, the sort of thing you order instead of dessert and feel rather pleased about.

If you’re in a more contemplative mood, Bitter Velvet leans into the herbal intensity of Fernet-Branca, while Mantua Spice keeps things lighter — Diplomático Mantuano brightened with Bénédictine, The King’s Ginger and a flicker of ginger ale and cinnamon.

Each one is made tableside, of course — stirred, garnished and presented in a manner that makes you slow down, sip properly, and briefly forget whatever tomorrow has planned.

One More for the Road?

Le Magritte has always carried an air of sophistication — the low lighting, the polished wood, the sort of place you enter and immediately feel elevated. Diplomático After Dark leans into that mood beautifully. It’s not about excess, but about extension — stretching the evening just a little further than you meant to, in the best possible way.

So, when that familiar moment arrives — the coats half-on, the bill within reach — perhaps reconsider. Settle back. Let the trolley come to you.

Because sometimes the best part of the night is the final act.

Diplomático After Dark is served exclusively Thursday – Saturday evenings until 5th April. The full menu will be available on select days thereafter, offering a stylish new reason to linger after dark. For more information, please visit www.thebeaumont.com.
